Setting SMART goals

Setting SMART goals

The year begins and, for most of us, it's time to start accomplishing our new goals or begin to set new ones. This year, thanks to a Personal Branding seminar I did, I'd set my goals with the SMART methodology.

How does it work?

It's not rocket science. In fact, it's quite simple to understand and to apply but, depending on your goal, you may need to squish your brain a little.

What does every letter stand for?

To keep it simple, the S stands for Specific, the M for Measurable, the A for Achievable, the R for Realistic and the T for Time bound.

Is it worth to try?

Just to give you an example, one of my new goals set using this methodology is about reading books. Here's the goal:

Read 1 book every month to grow personally/learn something new during 2021.

Breakdown:

  • S: Read
  • M: 1 book
  • A: every month
  • R: to grow personally or learn something new
  • T: during 2021

When the goal is set, you have to plan the actions you'll do to achieve it. In this case, what I did was simple. First, choose the book I'll read at the end of each month (I already chose the book for January) and second, divide the number of pages by the days each month has and stick to it. Plain and simple.

I hope you find this article useful and, if you do, I'll appreciate if you share it with others 😊.

Salut, Jordi 👋
